Lines, Light, Logistics

There's a particular satisfaction in photographing a building that most people will never slow down to look at. The Logistics Center in Sandy, OR, built by Cornice Construction, is a working distribution facility. It's not a statement piece. But inside, it's all geometry: long runs of structural steel, repeating bays, and light that does interesting things when a space is this large and this empty.

Shooting a space like this comes with its own set of challenges. Getting all the motion-detector lights on simultaneously takes some choreography, and you work quickly once they're up. Outside, I kept returning to the exterior not just for the architecture, but because the site sits directly under PDX's flight path. Between frames, planes were constantly taking off and landing in the background. It's the kind of detail that turns a straightforward exterior shot into something a little more alive.
