Calm Before Care
With healthcare projects, timing shapes the story you can tell. My shoot at the PeaceHealth Springfield Rehabilitation Hospital in Springfield, Oregon came at a special moment. Designed by ESa (Earl Swensson Associates), built by Pence Contractors, exterior brickwork by Kraft Masonry and operated through a partnership between PeaceHealth and Lifepoint Rehabilitation, the hospital was complete and ready to open its doors. The weather was clear and Pence was wrapping up the final punch list. This pre-occupancy window is a great chance to document the design exactly as the team intended, with clean sightlines and every detail in place. Once patients arrive, photography is still very possible. It simply takes more coordination around HIPAA and patient privacy, and it can capture something equally valuable: the building doing what it was designed to do.
The interiors have a crisp, clean, and welcoming feel. A generous use of blue tones is balanced by warm natural wood, creating spaces that feel calm without feeling clinical. Walking through the therapy gyms and treatment rooms, the purpose is clear. This building is designed around rehabilitation and helping people return to a vibrant life after a significant medical event. Outside, ground-level and aerial images show how the building sits on its site and welcomes people in. For a project team, images like these keep working long after the ribbon cutting, in proposals, RFP responses, award submissions, and websites that help win the next healthcare project. Whether your project is nearing completion or already serving its community, there’s a thoughtful way to capture it. Please feel free to reach out at info@mattswainphoto.com.
