Innovation in Motion

This summer, I had the opportunity to collaborate with Sea Legs Media to capture a series of dynamic drone photos and videos for Freres Wood as their Mass Plywood Panels (MPPs) were craned and hoisted into place on the new Huang Huang Collaborative Innovation Complex at Oregon State University.

The Huang Collaborative Innovation Complex will soon house one of the most powerful supercomputers in the nation—an interdisciplinary hub advancing research and learning in artificial intelligence, robotics, and materials science. The building’s mission is ambitious: to help solve critical global challenges in climate science, clean energy, and water resources through innovation and collaboration.

Watching these massive MPP panels lift into position was both technically impressive and visually captivating. Each panel swung gracefully into place, revealing the natural warmth and beauty of the wood grain—a perfect complement to the structure’s forward-thinking purpose. The material’s organic texture brings a sense of stability and warmth to a building devoted to technological advancement, creating an inspiring environment for students and faculty alike.

Projects like this highlight the importance of architectural photography in documenting not only design and construction, but also the spirit of innovation that drives them.
