Designed by Mahlum Architects Inc. and built by Pence Contractors, Cornelius Elementary reflects a thoughtful approach to educational design that is deeply rooted in its local community. From the moment you enter, a vibrant custom mural sets the tone, signaling that this is a place where creativity and curiosity are meant to thrive. Natural light, purposeful color choices, and carefully framed sightlines work together to create an environment that feels both energizing and welcoming.

Throughout the school, small learning nooks provide spaces for focused study and quiet reading, while outdoor courtyards extend the classroom beyond four walls. These secure, thoughtfully designed exterior areas offer students and staff opportunities for fresh air, movement, and hands-on learning. Projects like this are a reminder that when architecture is intentional, it actively supports the way students learn, gather, and grow
