Campus to Capitol

Since 2016, I’ve had the privilege of photographing the Oregon Community College Association’s All-Oregon Academic Team Luncheon—a spring tradition I always look forward to.

This event brings together Oregon’s legislative leaders and honors students from across the state who have demonstrated exceptional academic achievement. It’s always inspiring to hear their personal stories and to see how community colleges have helped them grow, overcome challenges, and pursue meaningful goals.

This year, I was especially struck by the broad range of backgrounds and life experiences represented in the room—students from across the globe and those whose families have called Oregon home for generations. Families proudly cheered from the audience, even when their values, journeys, or worldviews differed. It was a powerful reminder of how education builds bridges, fosters connection, and brings people together to celebrate shared success.
